Mustang EV Conversion

Convert Your Mustang to Electric

The Ford Mustang is an American icon. We give it a future worthy of its legend — silent power, instant torque, and the same unmistakable presence it has carried for over sixty years.

The Perfect Candidate

Why the Mustang Is Ideal for EV Conversion

The Ford Mustang was designed around simplicity: a front engine, rear-wheel drive, and a chassis built for spirited driving. That same simplicity makes it one of the most rewarding platforms for an electric vehicle conversion. The spacious engine bay accommodates modern electric motors and controllers without modification to the body, while the lightweight unibody construction means less mass for the batteries to move.

An electric Mustang does not just match its original performance — it redefines it. The instant torque of an electric motor transforms the launch feel, delivering neck-snapping acceleration without the hesitation of a carbureted V8 warming up. The lower center of gravity from a floor-mounted battery pack sharpens the handling, making the car more composed through corners than it ever was with a cast-iron block sitting high in the bay.

And unlike a numbers-matching restoration that sits under a cover in a climate-controlled garage, an electric Mustang is built to be driven. Daily. Rain or shine. Without worrying about vapor lock, timing adjustments, or the guilt of burning premium fuel at six miles per gallon in traffic. Discover why classic car owners everywhere are choosing to convert.

Generation Guide

Which Mustang Generations Work Best?

We have converted Mustangs from nearly every era, but some generations are particularly well-suited to electrification. Here is what we see most often in our shop — and what makes each one special.

  • First Generation (1964.5–1973) — The most popular conversion we perform. The early Mustang's compact dimensions, relatively light weight, and generous engine bay make it a natural fit. Fastbacks and convertibles are our most requested bodies. The transformation from a tired 289 or 302 to silent, instant electric torque is nothing short of revelatory.
  • Fox Body (1979–1993) — The Fox platform's lightweight construction and simple rear-wheel-drive layout translate beautifully to electric. The larger cabin and trunk provide more flexibility for battery placement, and the straightforward suspension geometry responds brilliantly to the improved weight distribution an EV conversion provides.
  • SN95 & New Edge (1994–2004) — These later Mustangs offer more interior room and a stiffer chassis that handles the additional battery weight gracefully. The wider engine bay accommodates higher-output motors and larger inverters, making them ideal for performance-focused builds.
  • Second Generation (1974–1978) — Often overlooked by collectors, the Mustang II is actually an excellent EV platform. Its smaller size means less energy needed per mile, and the conversion often redeems what many consider the least-loved generation — turning it into something genuinely thrilling to drive.

From Start to Finish

How We Convert Your Mustang

Every Mustang that enters our shop follows our six-step conversion process, adapted specifically for the Mustang platform. Here is what that looks like.

Assessment & Design

We begin with a thorough evaluation of your Mustang's condition, originality, and structural integrity. Then we engineer a powertrain package tailored to its specific generation, body style, weight, and your performance goals. We walk you through every option and provide transparent pricing before any work begins.

Fabrication & Installation

The combustion drivetrain is carefully removed and stored (every conversion is fully reversible). Custom motor mounts, battery enclosures, and cooling systems are fabricated to fit the Mustang's unique chassis. Every component is installed using our proven EV technology and hand-finished to the standard the car deserves.

Testing & Delivery

Before your Mustang leaves, it undergoes extensive road testing, dynamometer tuning, and quality inspection. We calibrate throttle mapping, regenerative braking, and thermal management to ensure it drives exactly as it should. You receive a full orientation, documentation, and ongoing support. See examples of finished Mustangs in our builds gallery.

Questions Answered

Common Questions About Mustang Conversions

Thinking about converting your Mustang but still have questions? Here are the ones we hear most. For a comprehensive list, visit our FAQ page.

  • Will it still feel like a Mustang? — Absolutely. We preserve the steering feel, the ride quality, and the visual identity. The difference is under the hood: smoother, faster, and silent. Many owners tell us it feels more like a Mustang than ever because they actually drive it now.
  • Is the conversion reversible? — Yes, completely. We store your original engine, transmission, and fuel system. If you ever want to return to combustion, we can reinstall everything. Learn more about our commitment to preservation on our Why Convert page.
  • How long does it take? — A typical Mustang conversion takes 12 to 20 weeks depending on the scope of work. Our process page breaks down each phase and what to expect at every stage.
  • What does it cost? — Mustang conversions typically range from $30,000 to $80,000+ depending on the motor, battery size, and level of customization. Visit our pricing guide for a detailed breakdown of each tier.
  • How does electric compare to the original V8? — In nearly every measurable way, the electric drivetrain outperforms the original. Faster acceleration, lower maintenance, better handling. Our gas vs electric comparison lays out the differences in detail.
