Land Rover EV Conversion

Convert Your Land Rover to Electric

The Land Rover was born to explore. We give it the power to do so silently — with relentless electric torque, zero emissions on the trail, and the same go-anywhere capability that made it a legend.

Born for Electrification

Why the Land Rover Is Perfect for EV Conversion

The classic Land Rover was engineered around a simple, rugged philosophy: go anywhere, carry anything, survive everything. That same engineering simplicity makes it one of the best platforms in the world for an electric vehicle conversion. The body-on-frame construction, bolt-on aluminum panels, and straightforward mechanicals mean the combustion drivetrain can be removed and replaced without any permanent modification to the vehicle's structure.

An electric Land Rover transforms the driving experience in ways that feel almost tailor-made for the platform. The instant, linear torque of an electric motor is exactly what you want when crawling over rocks at two miles per hour or powering up a muddy incline. There is no turbo lag, no stalling at low RPM, no throttle hesitation — just smooth, controllable power delivered precisely when and where you need it. Pair that with the original transfer case and low-range gearing, and you have an off-road vehicle with capabilities the original engineers would have envied.

And then there is the silence. Imagine traversing a forest track, a mountain pass, or a coastal path hearing nothing but the crunch of gravel under your tires and birdsong overhead. That is what an electric Land Rover offers — adventure without intrusion. Performance Specifications

What to Expect from Your Electric Land Rover

Every Land Rover conversion is engineered for the demands of the platform — trail-rated durability, fording capability, and the torque to move through terrain that would stall a conventional engine. Here are the typical specifications across our build tiers.

Estimated Range

180 – 280 mi

With battery packs from 60 to 90 kWh, sized for the Land Rover's heavier chassis. Off-road driving reduces range modestly, but regenerative braking on descents helps recover energy on hilly terrain.

Power Output

250 – 400 hp

High-torque motors selected specifically for low-speed pulling power and off-road capability. Paired with the original transfer case for low-range gearing that makes the electric Defender unstoppable.

Battery Capacity

60 – 90 kWh

Sealed, trail-rated lithium battery packs with active liquid cooling and IP67-rated enclosures. Built to withstand vibration, water crossings, and temperature extremes that come with serious off-road use.

The Off-Road Advantage

Silent Torque on Every Trail

Off-road driving is fundamentally about torque control. The ability to deliver precisely the right amount of power to the wheels, at precisely the right moment, is what separates a capable vehicle from one that gets stuck. An electric motor excels at this in ways a combustion engine physically cannot match.

A petrol or diesel engine needs to be spinning at a certain RPM before it makes useful torque. An electric motor makes its maximum torque from zero RPM. That means you can ease over an obstacle at a walking pace with absolute control, or power up a steep, loose climb without the wheelspin that comes from a sudden burst of combustion power. There is no clutch slip, no stalling, and no lag between your right foot and the wheels.

We also retain the original Land Rover transfer case and its low-range gearing. Combined with the electric motor's native torque, this gives you a crawl ratio that is genuinely extraordinary. We have watched electric Defenders ascend gradients that would have required a winch with the original engine. Model Guide

Which Land Rover Models Work Best?

We have converted Land Rovers spanning seven decades of production. Each model has its own character, its own strengths, and its own conversion considerations. Here is what we see most often — and what makes each one special.

Series I (1948–1958)

The original. The Series I's minimalist construction and light weight make it surprisingly well-suited to electrification. The narrow body limits battery placement options, but the result is a vehicle that feels agile, capable, and unmistakably authentic. These are rare, special machines, and we treat every one with the reverence it deserves. Our careful process ensures nothing original is permanently altered.

Series II & III (1958–1985)

The most popular Land Rover conversion we perform. The Series II and III offer more interior space than the Series I, a wider chassis for battery placement, and the rugged simplicity that makes the conversion process straightforward. The result is an incredibly capable daily driver that can still tackle serious off-road terrain on weekends. See real examples in our builds gallery.

Defender (1983–2016)

The Defender's coil-sprung chassis, wider body, and more modern underpinnings make it the most versatile platform for conversion. We can fit larger battery packs for extended range, higher-output motors for serious towing, and the sealed, waterproof enclosures that let you ford rivers without a second thought. Available in 90, 110, and 130 wheelbases — each with its own conversion advantages. Check our pricing page for Defender-specific estimates.

Beyond the Trail

A Land Rover You Can Drive Every Day

Classic Land Rovers are beloved, but they are not always easy to live with. The original engines are thirsty, maintenance-intensive, and often unreliable in the way only British engineering from the mid-twentieth century can be. Overheating in traffic, hard starts on cold mornings, and the constant drip of oil on the garage floor are familiar realities for anyone who has owned one.

An electric conversion eliminates all of that. You turn the key (or press a button, if you prefer), and the Land Rover is ready to go. No warming up. No choke. No worrying about whether the fuel pump will cooperate today. The electric drivetrain is virtually maintenance-free: no oil changes, no coolant flushes, no exhaust repairs. Just clean, reliable power every time you drive it.

That means your Land Rover stops being a weekend project and becomes a genuine daily driver. School runs, grocery trips, weekend adventures — it handles all of it with the same quiet competence. And when it is time to head off-road, the capability is not just preserved — it is enhanced.
